Well, I'm off in another hour to Nine Irish Brothers for a meal and to meet up with some single friends for a fun night. But first, I thought I'd show you what I've been up to in the past 24 hours.

I added the tail to the first bookmark I tatted and then tatted another from some of the thread I dyed last May. Neither are blocked yet and I haven't even hidden my ends on the second one but I'll do that tomorrow.

This afternoon I took a class with one of my favorite watercolor teachers, Rena Brouwer, at the Frankfort Public Library. She thought it would be a short class and we'd be out early. Ha! No Way! The painting on top was first and we used the back of a leaf to "stamp" the paper. She always shows lots more things to do with any technique but this was my attempt at creativity. One of the things I love is seeing how everyone else's work turned out. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera.

The second painting was actually the more involved one. Both are on 6" x 8" paper so these are not huge works of art. I'd like to do both again, differently. We were literally still painting at 4:00 p.m., the end of class. I'm always amazed at how different they look when I get home compared to when I am there. I guess because I'm right on top of it when I'm painting. They also look different when you mat them.

At some point, I'd like to combine my painting with my tatting but I'm going to have to get a whole lot better with the painting before I do that!

  1. Gina,
Those bookmarks are very cute! Your paintings aren't bad at all. Won't be long until you will be adding your tatting to them. Thanks for showing them to all of us.

  3. You are so multi-talented! Your watercolors are beautiful! I can imagine tatted flowers in a painted meadow, or even a tatted tree with watercolor background scenery.

  4. Hi Gina,
I love the soft effect and the colours used in the sky of your covered bridge painting, and the way you carried them into the water, too! Looks great!

  5. your pictures are absolutely beautiful, I would love to see more of your talents, you are really blessed imo :). watercolor is always a difficult thing, I wish I could use watercolor the way you have here, I am not flowy with mine, mine is much more detailed and I am not really good with it, pencil and acrylic are my better mediums. I will have to post some of my art. I got my degree in fine arts but I don't do much with it since I got sick. I am still an artist and will always be, maybe I will post some of my drawings and what not on the blog. I really love your use of color and think you should be very proud of your work here, it is very pretty :)

  7. Well, now - I guess you can change your name to "Painting Goddess"! Or add to it, perhaps....."Tatting Painting Dyeing and Other Creative Pursuits Goddess". . . I'll have to work on that.

The watercolors are beautiful! And how clever to use leaves as stamps. That looks like a fun class. The tatting is beautiful, too. And you wrote about it! How do you manage all of it? Gaaaaa!

    Hugs!

  8. I've shown my painting on here before. That's about how often I get to paint! Tatting is a major passion for me and so is painting but tatting is easier to pick up and carry on with. No clearing a big space or cleaning brushes and putting paints away. Yeah....I pretty much leave my shuttles and threads in the same place, day in and day out.

  9. I have wanted to take up watercolor painting for years, but have never gotten to it. Your paintings are great! Your bookmarks are very nice also - I just need more time in a day. Like 72 hours?!

  10. The effect of the leaf imprint is wonderful. That is a very nice painting. I also like what you did with the teapot bookmarks.
