Here it is! The Red Bookmark for The Red Book!!!!

BTW, about the book, this is in NO WAY meant to be a recommendation for the book. I haven't even read it yet. I followed a link from a link from a link once upon a time and found a reference to it. I put it on my "wish list" on one of the online used book sites and promptly forgot about it. I recently rediscovered it and having a few spare $$, I decided to order it.

I love hearing how and where others get their inspiration. We are so conditioned to look at things from certain viewpoints that we often miss the fabulous stuff right under our noses. How often does someone make a million on something that when you saw it, used in this different way, that you were in awe, wondering why YOU didn't think of it yourself? There are so many ways to look at something. Sometimes you have to imagine viewing it from an angle you really can't physically achieve. Sometimes you just have to play..."what if....?" and see where it goes. Sometimes you have to break the rules, not just once, but over and over because you know there's something new to uncover!

Creativity is about playing. Children are so good at playing. They allow their imaginations to go everywhere. Sometimes to bad places and that's where we often learn to stop imagining but what we really needed to learn was how to direct our imaginations towards something positive.

I took part in a few online book groups that used books meant to help you develop your creativity. Why? I think I'm a pretty creative person - but I've noticed time and again that I've failed to ask questions that easily might take me in a new direction. I don't know why. Maybe it was that early training of "children are to be seen and not heard" that squelched my questioning but even being aware of it hasn't released the habit's hold on me completely. So I actively seek out ways to remind myself to look at things differently. Sometimes I'm just too busy to pursue creativity and taking time to read a book on it forces me to set aside a little time for a little while.

Now, about the bookmark. I'm still tweaking my version. The picots on this one were almost too short. OR, it could be that the extra 2 ds I put on the side chains before starting the picots made the chain segment too far from the rings. I'm pretty sure I used size 20 thread on the last one I made so using size 40 made a difference too. I'm making another, which I'll offer in a holiday giveaway tomorrow, so come back and see me!

Here's a clearer view.

  1. That is REALLY PRETTY! Matches the book perfectly. I like it that you made a special bookmark for reading this book - makes it an event to celebrate!

I find also that I tend to shut down some of my more creative ideas, mostly because they don't seem practical or I feel guilty giving them too much of a priority. That attitude and some misguided notion I have about rules for things like color have squelched me in the past. I'm trying to ignore the negative little voice in my head and listen to the little free spirit who is knocking around in there instead.

I love the woven bookmark. It has strength through the long picots to hold together like *Our United States of America* as *One Nation Under God*!!!!
