It took me three tries but I finally completed Nancy Tracy's owl! I need to contact Nancy and ask her to check the text. I actually completed 2 owls without the beak but something was wrong each time. Finally I just followed the diagram only and then I still made one join one picot off but I'm done for now. I'm not normally an owl fan but this little fella just charmed me right away! He is Nancy's free pattern from Be-Stitched this month. It's not on the page yet but if you join the mailing list and request it, I'm sure she will send it.

  5. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I wasn't paying close enough attention to the pattern. Think I'll try again just using the diagram and the picture.

  6. Cathy, I thought that too and used a post-it on every line the 2nd time and kept referencing the diagram but I still missed the small ring before I finished off. I still have the body of that one and could just tat a new head when I get ambitious!

Val - the eyes are some beads I bought last summer. I forget what they are called, but the hole is at one end like a drop bead. I wasn't sure it would work but they snugged up in there perfectly!

  8. This "wise old owl" looks perfect to me! Very nicely tatted.

Even though in Western PA we had just a dusting of snow (fortunately), I have to keep reminding myself that Halloween is tomorrow. Feels more like November 30!
